afeway will move its spot TV and radio planning and buying account to J. Walter Thompson USA, Detroit, effective Jan. 1. Western Initiative Media Worldwide, West Hollywood, and McCann-Erickson, San Francisco, previously handled. Print remains in-house; Dailey & Associates, Los Angeles, retains creative. Safeway spent $27 million on measured media last year.
