Scholz & Friends buys Viennese agency

Published on .

VIENNA -- Scholz & Friends, Cordiant Communications Group's second network after Bates Worldwide, has acquired creative agency Die Werbe AG, based in Vienna.

Scholz & Friends originally set up in Vienna three years ago as a coordination center for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia, with cigarette manufacturer Reemtsma as it first client.

Since then, the agency network has opened bureaux in both Prague, in 1997, and Ljubljana, earlier this year, as it has taken on more business from clients such as DHL, Tchibo and Schwarzkopf & Henkel.

Acquiring Die Werbe beefs up the team in Austria. It's a three year old agency, listing clients such as Novartis and Yamaha Music Austria, which will continue to be run by existing management.

Elsewhere in Europe, Scholz & Friends opened an office in London in late 1997 and is setting one up in Paris this year. The group is headed by Chairman and CEO Peter Schoning.
