Scripps reports good quarter

Media company E.W. Scripps Co., Cincinnati, reported that third-quarter income was up 36% to $23.7 million from $17.4 million last year. Newspaper revenue totals were up 5% to $164 million. Ad revenue increased 5.7% to $119 million, with half that increase due to the addition of a Vero Beach, Fla., newspaper. Revenues for broadcast business also showed growth, with political ads alone totaling $4 million compared to $400,000 in the year-ago period..
