Scripps sells cable unit

E.W. Scripps Co., Cincinnati, will sell its 792,500-subscriber cable TV systems to Comcast Corp. in a stock transaction valued at $1.575 billion. Comcast said after the sale it will be the third largest cable operator in the U.S., serving more than 4.3 million cable subscribers. The transaction will leave Scripps with $1 billion in annual revenues, more than 60% of which will come from newspapers.
