Sears, Roebuck & Co. awarded the estimated $20 million advertising account for its hardware stores to Y&R Advertising. Sears has about 140 Sears Hardware stores nationwide and last year purchased Orchard Supply & Hardware, a California chain with about 65 stores. Ogilvy & Mather, Chicago, the incumbent agency on Sears Hardware, dropped out of the pitch. Evans Group, San Francisco, was the Orchard agency. Y&R will handle the account through its San Francisco, Chicago and New York offices.
