Senate cancels liquor ad hearings

U.S. Senate hearings on liquor advertising have been canceled. Sen. Conrad Burns (R., Mont.), Senate communications subcommittee chairman, said he took the action after meeting with TV network executives at the National Association of Broadcasters convention. They convinced him, he said, there would be no spots airing on major networks and that the hearings "would be an issue in terms of a problem that does not exist."
