COLCHESTER, Vt.-Seventh Generation has begun selling its products in the Boston area's 33 Star Market stores, the first stage of the cataloger's plans to take its wares to the mass market.

"It's exciting," said Mike Brown, director of retail sales for Seventh Generation. "Star Market was the first such retailer we approached and they've picked up three items in all their stores."

Star is offering Seventh Generation's Dishwasher Detergent, Non-Chlorine Bleach and Liquid Laundry Detergent.

"Star Market made the decision to offer our products in response to their customers' demands for environmental products," he said.

Seventh Generation markets environmentally friendly consumer and household goods in the U.S., primarily through its catalog and natural food stores nationally.

The company's branded merchandise includes tissue paper items and plastic garbage bags made from recycled materials, and biodegradable cleaning and laundry products.
