SHARPNESS STANDS OUT IN PRESSURE COOKER

A quiet presence has been providing much of the power behind MediaCom's successful new business run of late.

Dene Callas, 43, co-managing director and chief strategic officer of the U.S. Grey Advertising media arm, has been instrumental in helping the unit win more than $400 million in new billings from clients including Seagram Americas, Reebok, Air Touch, USA Networks and others since mid-1997. as qualities that attract clients.

Ms. Callas, who began her Grey career in 1977 as an assistant media planner, is known around the agency for her intellect as well as her ability to remain calm under pressure.

Jim Bell, managing director of MediaCom Worldwide, categorized Ms. Callas as the "unknown heart" of the U.S. media operation.

"I'd love to clone her and take her around the world," says Mr. Bell.
