Shell Chemicals names shortlist of one

Published on .

LONDON -- Shell Chemicals, the recently launched London-based company comprising all of the Anglo-Dutch group's chemicals business worldwide, is close to appointing small U.K. agency Maher Bird Associates to its first global marketing project.

The part-Omnicom-owned agency is reported to have pitched for the new account, estimated at $25 million, against the Bates Worldwide, BBDO and TBWA networks and Ketchum Advertising.

A company spokeswoman claims no contract has been signed with MBA but admits the company is having "further discussions" with the London shop and is not talking to other agencies.

Reports that Texan agency Focus and TBWA will also work on the project in the U.S. and East Asia are unfounded, she says. "Shell Chemicals has been looking at its global communications and no decision has been made on that at all," she stresses.

The project is likely to include the creation of a global identity and advertising.
