MANILA -- Pilipinas Shell, a subsidiary of the Netherlands' Royal Dutch Shell, and Citibank have launched a novel credit card that allows motorists to get rebates every time they purchase fuel and other products from Shell gas stations displaying the Cirrus/Mastercard logo.

With a credit limit of $2,000, it func tions like a regular credit card that can be used in other outlets too. But, notes Pilipinas Shell President Oscar Reyes: "The card was primarily designed with motor ists in mind."

Rebates range from 2% on fuel purchases to 0.5% on non-fuel products such as motor oil, tires and batteries. Cardholders will also be entitled to a 0.5% rebate on other retail transactions worldwide.

Accumulated rebates will be deducted every month from the cardholder's billing statement.

Other benefits include free towing services from Wheelers Club International when the cardholder's car breaks down and other discount privileges from participating stores.
