Five shops in Levi's finals

Hal Riney & Partners, San Francisco, and four other agencies were invited to pitch for Levi Strauss & Co.'s $90 million Levi's Brand USA account, the company said in a statement. The four other agencies had been expected to be named as finalist contenders for the account. They are: incumbent Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco; Bartle Bogle Hegarty, London, which handles Levi's brand advertising in Europe and Asia; TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif.; and BBDO Worldwide, Los Angeles and New York. DDB/Needham Worldwide, San Francisco and New York, was eliminated. The five agencies, after a briefing, will develop strategic and creative recommendations. An agency selection is due in February.
