SI section raps Olympic ambushing

Published on .

The July 24 issue of Sports Illustrated, on newsstands Wednesday, will feature a 44-page special advertising section profiling each of the 33 1996 Summer Olympic sponsors. The section, called "Olympic Partnership: How Corporate Sponsors Support the Atlanta Games," will also include an essay on the evils of ambush or "parasite" marketing. The International Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic Committee and the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games will distribute the magazine-like insert at upcoming Olympic events.

Also, on Thursday, SI will hit newsstands with a special issue that previews the upcoming National Football League season. The issue will sport 12 different covers for 12 different regions of the country. The issue, the first of its kind for SI, will be followed in upcoming months by special issues devoted to college football, the National Basketball Association and college basketball.
