Silicon Graphics mulls McCann link

Published on .

Silicon Graphics, Mountain View, Calif., is evaluating whether to stay with McCann-Erickson Worldwide, San Francisco, hired this month for its estimated $40 million Visual PC Group account, in the wake of McCann's New York office signing on as lead shop for Gateway 2000's estimated $70 million account. If SGI drops McCann, it likely would hire finalist Arnold Communications, Boston. Gateway, believed not to consider SGI a conflict, is shifting its account after a rocky year at D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Los Angeles. Gateway at deadline hadn't confirmed reports of the McCann move, but McCann confirmed it to Silicon Graphics.
