Smart car agencies appointed

BIEL -- Micro Compact Car, the joint venture company between Mercedes-Benz and Swatch, has finally put all its agencies in place in preparation for the launch of the Smart car next spring.

BBDO-owned HMI Munich has emerged victorious from a pitch-list of five to become lead agency for Europe on the direct marketing business. Media buying and planning will be handled through BBDO's new media agency G.F.M.O. Hamburg, which also handles all Mercedes-Benz's accounts.

And Nuremberg-based Sellbytell has been appointed to the telephone marketing account for the European Smart Call Center.

These agencies join Weber Hodel Schmid, headquartered in Zurich, which picked up the Smart car's European ad business in May, to complete the line-up.
