SonicNet tunes up rich-media Flash Radio

Published on .

Music site SonicNet mixes animated graphics with music when it turns the switch Oct. 1 on SonicNet Flash Radio, a joint venture with Web software developer Macromedia. Intel Corp., looking for a rich-media venue to hype its Pentium II chip, is the exclusive sponsor of the site. Flash interstitial ads created by Macromedia for Intel will appear between music sets and graphics.

"The experience is enhanced by higher processor power," said Nicholas Butterworth, president of SonicNet, whose users include many early adopters of technology. Intel considers this "a way to reach a key demographic."

The site will have five channels: Top Hits, Urban, Rock, Electronic and SonicNet Mix, a channel that changes weekly depending on which artists are featured.
