Sony Computer Entertainment America, Foster City, Calif., unveiled the Next Generation PlayStation 128-bit system, successor to the popular 64-bit PlayStation videogame console. The new system features a trademarked concept called Emothion Synthesis, which Sony said uses highly sophisticated mathematical calculations to control the actions of characters. The Next Generation system also will be able to accept DVD-ROMs along with traditional CD-ROMs. Sony plans to release the new system in Japan in March 2000, followed by a release worldwide later that fall.
