Sosa goes to bat for ConAgra

Published on .

ConAgra Grocery Products, Irvine, Calif., tapped Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa as spokesman for Hunt's Snack Pack pudding and Orville Redenbacher popcorn, as well as the face for its corporate charity, "Feeding Children Better." The agreement, which will be announced at a news conference at Chicago's Wrigley Field Aug. 11, calls for Mr. Sosa to be featured in a newspaper insert Aug. 13 for Snack Pack as well as in advertising later in the year for Orville Redenbacher, via Euro RSCG Tatham, Chicago. ConAgra spent $3.4 million on Snack Pack and $4.5 million on Orville Redenbacher in 1999, according to Competitive Media Reporting. Mr. Sosa also is the spokesman for Hansen Beverage Co. and in the past has been featured in ads for MasterCard International and McDonald's Corp., among others.
