Southwest Airlines announced its succession plan for its legendary 70-year-old chairman, president and CEO, Herb Kelleher. Airline Vice President-General Counsel James F. Parker will become CEO, and Colleen Barrett, the current executive vice president-customers and corporate secretary, will become president-chief operating officer in June after Southwest celebrates its 30th anniversary. Low-cost Southwest has turned a profit in each of its 29 years and has gained renown as a shrewd marketing company with a folksy, fun image. GSD&M, Austin, Texas, is the airline's longtime agency.
