Internet media company Space.com said chief financial officer John Ferrara is taking on the role of acting chief operating officer as part of a management reshuffling aimed at achieving profitability. The site, which features space-related content, also laid off nine people as part of the reorganization. The company in September cut 20 percent, or 22 people, from its staff as part of its drive to turn profitable. In a statement, Space.com said Mr. Ferrara replaces Mitchell Cannold, who is leaving the company. All business units will now report to Mr. Ferrara, including publishing, Internet, software, business affairs, sales and marketing, and technology. Mr. Ferrara is expected to also handle CFO duties until the reorganization is completed.
