Already the No. 1 portal in Brazil, UOL first launched a Spanish-language service in Argentina, followed by Mexico, Venezuela and Chile.
Backed by Grupo Folha, the magazine division of Abril magazine editors, and a group of private investors, UOL plans to enter Spain in January 2000.
The U. S. launch will be backed exclusively by print ads in the Miami Herald and its sister Spanish-language paper El Nuevo Herald.
