Spanish telecoms step up promotional battle for customers

MADRID -- The race for new Internet and telecoms clients inSpain is speeding up as major telecom companies launch newpromotions and services. Following the trend in more developed markets,like the U.K., telecom companies are beginning to offer free, unlimited access to the Internet. Retevision set the trend, but competitors such as Telefonica's Teleline, JazzTel, Uni2 and even some banks such as La Caixa, have quickly followed the same path. In the telephone market, regional player Ono is launching a majorpromotion through agency SCPF, offering free local calls. Meanwhile a new player, JazzTel, is offering 60 minutes of free inter-provincial calls.
