All-American Soap Box Derby, Akron, Ohio, is lining up sponsors for the 1996 racing season for home-built, gravity-powered cars run by boys and girls ages 9 to 16 across North America. More than 250 local champions will compete in the national finals Aug. 10 in Akron. Sponsorship includes in-event presence, signage and participation in local promotions at costs ranging from $5,000 to $250,000 (title). Taste of the NFL, the fifth annual food and wine tasting event held on the eve of the Super Bowl to raise money for hunger relief, seeks sponsors for the pairing of noted chefs with current or former NFL football players into cooking duos. More than 2,200 people are expected to attend the $300-a-ticket event, slated for Jan. 27 in Phoenix; sponsorships are available at various levels ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 (title). Minor League Baseball is tapping sponsors for its 1996 "Swing for the Fences" home run championship running next June through October. Qualifying events and team championships are open to the public in 32 national minor league markets. Sponsorship includes on-site signage, product sampling and sales, plus in-store opportunities; costs range from $200,000 (presenting) to $500,000 (title). Valvoline Co., Lexington, Ky., has associate sponsorship openings for its Winston Cup Nascar vehicle driven by Mark Martin and its IndyCar driven by Robby Gordon for 1996 racing seasons. African American Consumer Supershow, slated for June 1 and 2 in Philadelphia and Sept. 28 and 29 in Charlotte, N.C., seeks sponsors on all levels for its inaugural entertainment and educational events. Sponsorship opportunities include on-site product and logo promotion, sampling, surveys and sales to an estimated audience of 50,000 consumers in each market. Costs range from $10,000 to $50,000. Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball Men's & Women's League is accepting sponsors on various levels for the 1996 season, visiting 24 major markets next May through September.
