SportsLine.com adds MVP.com assets, inks deal with USA

Published on .

Internet sports media company SportsLine.com bought some assets of MVP.com, an online retailer with ties to basketball star Michael Jordan and hockey star Wayne Gretzky, and separately, tapped a unit of USA Networks to run the SportsLine.com online store.

Under the multiyear pact with USA, the media company's Electronic Commerce Solutions (ECS) group will be the exclusive operator of Shop SportsLine, the online store of the company's CBS SportsLine.com service, which it hopes to relaunch by spring. Financial details weren't disclosed. Separately, SportsLine.com said it bought the domain names, trademarks and certain other assets associated with privately held MVP.com's Web sites that include mvp.com, PlanetOutdoors.com, igogolf.com, tennisdirect.com and golfclubtrader.com.

SportsLine.com said it expects the sites to remain open for business while operations are being transferred to USA's ECS group. MVP, which closed offices in Boulder, Colo., and Austin, Texas, restructured its operations in December.
