DaimlerChrysler, Stuttgart, awarded the international communications account for the Smart car to Springer & Jacoby, Hamburg. The account is estimated at more than $40 million. The creative hot shop takes over the account next year from Weber Hodel Schmid, Zurich. Springer & Jacoby already handles the German account for DaimlerChrysler-owned Mercedes-Benz. True North Communications, Chicago, is buying a 35% stake in Springer & Jacoby with the aim of bankrolling the expansion of the German shop into a network capable of handling the Mercedes account across the Continent.
