Sprint promotes LeMay

Published on .

Sprint Corp. on Thursday named Ronald T. LeMay president and chief operating officer, from CEO of the Sprint Telecommunications Venture (a national wireless alliance with cable companies Cox Communications, Comcast Corp. and Tele-Communications Inc.). The Sprint Telecommunications Venture was officially renamed Sprint Spectrum, as expected. Mr. LeMay will remain its CEO until a replacement is named within the next two months.

Sprint Spectrum is conducting an agency review for its estimated $30 million account. Agencies asked to participate include J. Walter Thompson Co. (Sprint's agency) and Hal Riney & Partners, both San Francisco; and Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners and Jordan, McGrath, Case & Taylor, both New York. A decision is expected by April.

Sprint Spectrum also announced plans to create five regional headquarters with separate management teams within the next few months.
