Star TV to launch Viva Cinema in the U.S.

MANILA -- News Corp subsidiary Star TV is to launch Viva Cinema in the U.S. on the DirectTV broadcast satellite platform.

Viva Cinema, a joint venture between Star TV and Viva Communications of the Philippines, is a 24-hour Filipino-language movie channel. Viva Cinema claims to offer at least 300 Filipino films annually.

The program will be distributed via EthnicAmerican Broadcasting Co., which buys, produces and packages ethnic services for delivery through DirectTV and through local cable operators.
