Starbucks Corp. plans to begin testing its version of the cybercafe in the next six months. At the Comdex Fall computer show in Las Vegas, Starbucks showed some e-mail and video conferencing services it is developing with Intel Corp. and others. Director of Marketing John Williams stressed that Starbucks intends to keep its focus on coffee and culture, not technology. "We want to do pretty much the opposite of cybercafes," he said. "Technology is one of the tools to do that, but it is not the center of attention."
