SAO PAULO--StarMedia, the Portuguese-and Spanish-language Internet portal, has promoted Bob Wollheim, senior product VP, to president of the Brazil network.

Mr. Wollheim, who will maintain his previous responsibilities, will oversee all the network's business in Brazil, including the online community and the two companies acquired this year -- Zeek! and Cade.

"Our fast growth in the market demanded a centralized administration. We have now over 100 employees in the country," says Fernando Espuelas, chairman-CEO of the Starmedia Network.

Mr. Wollheim arrived at StarMedia in August 1998 as commercial director. Earlier this year, he was promoted to VP-service to clients and later assumed the position of senior product-VP, based in New York.

Meanwhile, Mr. Espuelas is also planning to appoint a new general director at Starmedia.com in Brazil, to succeed Indio Brasileiro de Guerra Neto, who was recently promoted to VP-business to business, based in New York.
