MIAMI -- StarMedia Network, a leading Spanish-and-Portuguese-language Internet site, and French beauty marketer L'Oreal, are bringing their successful co-branded women's site here, targeting the estimated 17 million U.S. Hispanic women.

Since its launch in Latin America a year ago, the Cadamujer ("Every Woman") site has posted dramatic growth, with a leap of 330% in traffic from the end of September 2000 to end of February 2001. The Portuguese version is www.viamulher.com.

The U.S. version of Cadamujer will offer Spanish-speaking women online community-building tools, resources and local content. To commemorate the launch, Cadamujer U.S. has invited women to participate in an essay contest in which they share their personal experiences as women of Latino origin living in the U.S.

"By leveraging StarMedia's 27 million unique user base and complete marketing solutions platform, L'Oreal has been able to successfully build direct consumer relationships with its target audience throughout Latin America. We are confident that Cadamujer.com's expansion into the U.S. ... will [allow] L'Oreal to pinpoint and target the preference and needs of Latina users in the U.S.," said Peter Blacker, senior vice president, global sales strategy and partnerships, StarMedia Network. -- Mary Sutter
