Stender to oversee cereal at Quaker

Published on .

Margaret Stender on Sept. 11 was named president of the ready-to-eat cereals business at Quaker Oats Co., Chicago. Ms. Stender, 43, who worked at Quaker previously from 1983-96, succeeds Harry Dent, who has left the company to pursue other opportunities. Ms. Stender most recently held the position of senior VP-general manager of Consumer Travel Solutions for Rand McNally. Quaker's ready-to-eat cereals business had 1999 sales of $725 million, roughly a 10% share of the $7.6 billion category ready-to-eat cereal category. Quaker stock fell today after jumping nearly 10% Friday based on renewed rumblings of merger talks with Kellogg Co.
