Steve Forbes leads ad parade

Published on .

The extent of Steve Forbes' ad spending in his presidential race has become apparent with the release of information from the Federal Election Commission. Mr. Forbes last year spent $10 million on advertising and gave or loaned his campaign $16 million of the $18 million it raised, according to FEC records. Only $1.5 million came from private contributions. Mr. Forbes' spending was far ahead of what was reported by the other leading GOP contenders: $8.4 million Sen. Bob Dole, $5.4 million for Sen. Phil Gramm, $3.5 million for Tennessee Gov. Lamar Alexander and $3.2 million for Pat Buchanan.
