Stringer gets Sony president post

Former Tele-TV chairman and CEO Howard Stringer has been named president of the Sony Corp. of America, the company announced Thursday. Mr. Stringer will assume the position May 5 and report directly to Sony Corp. President and Chief Operating Officer Nobuyuki Idei. Under Mr. Stringer, Sony Corp. will oversee Sony Retail Entertainment, Sony Online Ventures and SW Networks. Sony Electronics, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment will continue to operate separately and report to Tokyo management, a Sony statement said. Concurrent to Mr. Stringer's announcement, Ted Masaki has been named deputy president of Sony Corp. of America, and Nick Henny has been named chief financial officer.
