Stroh denies 'sale' report

Published on .

Privately-held Stroh Brewery Co., Detroit, denied a report in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that it is in talks to sell to S&P Co., Mill Valley, Calif., which owns Pabst Brewing Co. In a statement, Stroh said, however, it has analyzed the possibility of combining with another brewer. According to the Journal story, S&P would sell some Stroh malt liquor brands to Miller Brewing Co. and would hire Miller to contract brew other Stroh brands. Miller already contract brews Pabst brands for S&P. S&P could not be reached for comment. Miller declined to comment.
