Subway's review down to a dozen

Published on .

Subway Sandwiches & Salads narrowed its $100 million review to 12 agencies last week and said that it would have a short list prepared within two weeks. Previous agency Hal Riney & Partners/Heartland, Chicago, is a finalist.

Lifetime Television ran page ads last week in the Boston Globe and Providence (R.I.) Journal headlined "Don't let TCI pull the plug on Lifetime." The cable network is upset because Tele-Communications Inc., the nation's largest cable operator, is threatening to pull the service off a number of its systems to make way for Fox's upcoming news channel. TCI has given Fox a commitment of 10 million subscribers and must jettison other services to make room for Fox. Risking TCI's ire in this manner, Lifetime could find itself booted off more systems.
