Stepping up the war in cellular communications, AT&T
is finally marketing wireless services it acquired with its $11.5 billion purchase of McCaw Cellular last September. Initial promotions targeted to AT&T customers include three months free of evening and weekend airtime on an AT&T portable cellular phone and discounts on cellular long distance calling. AT&T is also pushing its paging services by offering the first month of service free and unlimited local messages when consumers of AT&T long distance lease a local numeric pager for $12.95 a month. A similar paging service is also being offered to businesses. AT&T expects to begin advertising the wireless services under its brand name late this August.
