AT&T throws switch

AT&T Corp. on Thursday evening hosted an event with New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Marriott Hotels President Bill Marriott to "flip the switch" that will light AT&T's new electronic outdoor board located on the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. AT&T signed a six-year lease with Marriott for the sign, which will transmit news and photos via digital animation technology. "We're focusing on becoming more closely associated with the New York community as we begin offering local telephone service," said an AT&T spokeswoman.

Gruen to head TV Food Network
Erica Gruen, director of media services for Merkley Newman Harty, has been named president-CEO of cable's TV Food Network effective June 17. Ms. Gruen departs Merkley after only a few months; she had previously been senior VP-director of strategic media resources at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising and was marketing manager for the 1980 launch of Bravo Cable Network. Jeff Wayne had been interim president of the TV Food Network.
