SINGAPORE -- AXN Action TV, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, and Videoland TV Network in Taiwan have forged a deal to distribute AXN from January 1 next year. Videoland TV Network is part of UCG, the biggest cable and satellite distribution and communications company in Taiwan.

A 24-hour daily service, AXN features top international and Asian action/adventure programming, including television series, movies, action animation and extreme sports.

AXN CEO James Buklarewicz and the president of Videoland TV Network, C.Y. Chen, say the agreement is part of a wider deal that would bring together Sony Pictures Entertainment and Videoland to boost entertainment in Taiwan. The partnership will entail co-production projects, capital investments and international distribution.

AXN is available to about five million households and hotels throughout Asia, including Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Brunei, India, Bangladesh and, most recently, South Korea and Sri Lanka, where the service was introduced October 1 .

A separate AXN channel in Japan has also been launched, marking the channel's first move towards worldwide distribution.
