Taiwan predicts growth for Internet ads

TAIPEI--Online advertising sales will grow by 300%in Taiwan during 1999, predicts The Market IntelligenceCenter (MIC), a division of Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry. Last year, the value of online advertising reached $3.7 million, up 250% from 1997. Industry sources say there remains a huge potential for continued growth as online advertising accounted for a mere0.11% of Taiwan's total ad spend last year.

Taiwan's Internet marketing activities are currentlydominated by Asiad Network, which was the first agencyto enter the island's online ad market, and by HiAD, ajoint venture between Hinet (Taiwan's largest Internetservice provider) and CurioBox Interactive Marketing Co,Ltd. Another newcomer that shows promise of becoming amajor player is Chinese Internet Advertising Co., Ltd .
