TAIPEI--The Taipei Newspaper Association is petitioning the government'sInformation Office, the agency charged with overseeing media affairs, forpermission to run alcoholic beverage ads in Taiwan's daily newspapers.

The association says that it's unfair of the government to allow liquor ads tobe broadcast on Taiwanese TV and radio while continuing with an ad ban innewspapers.

A ranking Information Office official says that the GIO will consider liftingthe ban against the advertising of liquor in newspapers in order to create alevel playing field among all media.
