TalkCity unveils Guthy-Renker deal and new sponsorships

TalkCity April 14 unveils two sponsorships with Intel Corp. and Discover Card, and a co-branded distribution relationship with infomercial company Guthy-Renker.

Discover Card is sponsoring a variety of events around Talk City's Entertainment & Business Channels. The package sponsorship includes sponsoring an online career fair April 22 and 23 and online chats about safe shopping. Discover Card interactive agency Fry Multimedia is working closely on the creative.

Meanwhile. Intel is sponsoring TalkCity's College Connection area, and launching the Intel College Sports & Trivia Challenge, in conjunction with Intel agency Euro RSCG DSW Partners.

TalkCity is also kicking off a co-branded celebrity chat area for Guthy-Renker's retail site Choice Mall. The first celebrity chat will be with Victoria Principal talking about her cosmetics line on April 16. Not only do telephone shoppers make likely Web consumers, but, said Daniel Paul, VP-business development at TalkCity, "It's great way to do an upsell after the fact."

Mr. Paul said he can envision future chats surrounding some of the motivational celebrities that Guthy-Renker stars in its infomercials.
