Target to expand e-commerce offerings

Target Stores, Minneapolis, on Sept. 7 announced plans for an expanded online merchandise offering, including a push into the toy market for the holiday season. The Dayton Hudson Corp. discount unit said items purchased on the site ( can be returned to any of its 881 stores. The move comes as Wal-Mart Stores, eToys, and others prepare for a major holiday battle. Other retailers making more aggressive online selling moves in time for the holiday season include Restoration Hardware, Corte Madera, Calif., a national home furnishings specialty retailer. Meanwhile, Spiegel announced it will help in the launch of an e-commerce joint venture between upscale London retailer Harrods and direct mail company Otto Versand.
