TCI creates Internet unit

Published on .

Tele-Communications Inc. named Bruce Ravenal to lead its new TCI Internet Services unit, which primarily will oversee @Home, TCI's planned cable-modem high-speed Internet access service. Mr. Ravenal had been senior VP-chief operating officer of TCI Technology Ventures. TCI plans to test @Home, a joint venture with venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, this year in Sunnyvale, Calif. A national rollout will follow in 1997.

@Home has yet to name a CEO to replace acting CEO Will Hearst III, a partner in Kleiner Perkins.
