TCI speeds digital rollout

Tele-Communications Inc. Chairman John Malone said the company will speed up conversion of remaining TCI cable systems to hybrid fiber coaxial cable, opening the door for TCI to offer its high-speed Internet service @Home to nearly all TCI subscribers by 2000. And in an about-face from six months ago, TCI said it's going full steam ahead with rollout of digital set-top boxes that will allow nearly 40% of its 14.3 million cable subscribers to buy an additional 40 cable channels and 14 digital audio channels.
