Telefonos de Mexico to invest $49 mil in Prodigy

Mexico's largest phone company Telefonos de Mexico, or Telmex, plans to invest $49 million in online service provider Prodigy. Prodigy has about 450,000 subscribers. This latest investment is the second by a Mexican company; Grupo Carso invested along with International Wireless in May 1996 when Prodigy was sold by owners IBM Corp. and Sears, Roebuck & Co. No further details about the Telmex investment were disclosed.
