Thursday is Ad Day in New York

New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who declared June 15 as "Advertising Day" in his city, is expected to be among the dignitaries on hand for a gala fundraiser at Rockefeller Center. About 1,500 adfolks also are expected to attend the evening event, with proceeds used for scholarships and related activities of local advertising groups. Host organizations include the American Advertising Federation, Advertising Club of New York and Advertising Women of New York. Advertising New York '95 also has a home page on the Internet's World Wide Web.

Forbes said it will profile sports stars Isiah Thomas, former point guard for the Detroit Pistons, and Steve Young, quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, in its "CEO Profiles" advertising campaign. It marks the first time professional athletes have been featured in the ads. Schedule includes business publications and The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, The Financial Times and the International Herald Tribune. The campaign was developed by Merkley Newman Harty, New York.

Church's Chicken, Atlanta, debuts its "Adventure of Treasure Island" sweepstakes promotion June 26. It will run through July 23 and include 10 grand prize vacations to Treasure Island Adventure Resort in Las Vegas. Support includes network and cable TV spots and radio spots. Levenson & Hill, Dallas, is the agency.

Marie Claire, via Landey & Partners, Grounds Morris, New York, begins a campaign Thursday in The New York Times, and later in Advertising Age and Women's Wear Daily through July.
