'Time,' Ford mark 30th Earth Day

Published on .

Time's first global special edition goes on sale April 19, honoring the 30th anniversary of Earth Day. The issue will be on sale for a month, vs. the usual frequency of the newsweekly. The magazine will carry an insert--the first global version of Time for Kids, with a second special edition distributed to 2.8 million student subscribers. Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, Mich., is the sole advertiser in the expected 100-page issue of Time and both kids' books. The carmaker launches a new corporate campaign from Ogilvy & Mather, New York and Dearborn, in the issue. The ads spotlight Ford's environmental initiatives around the world. Time Publisher Ed McCarrick expects the first global issue to have 30 million readers, including 5.3 million subscribers.
