Staffers at San Francisco-based Health Magazine
were told Jan. 16 that the magazine's editorial and business operations will be moved to the Birmingham, Ala., offices of parent company Southern Progress Corp., which also publishes Southern Living
and Cooking Light
magazines. All Time Warner properties are under pressure to meet AOL Time Warner's aggressive revenue and profitability goals, which for Time's magazines were set before the year's economic slowdown became apparent.
Mary Morgan, VP-publisher of Health, insisted cost-cutting did not drive the move. The only cost savings "is the cost of real estate," she said. "There will be no staff reductions." Health's publishing and some of its ad sales operations will remain in New York. The magazine hopes to complete the move by the end of April.
