Time Inc. shutters 'Life' as monthly

Published on .

Life goes on, just not as a monthly magazine. The 64-year old picture magazine will suspend monthly publication as of the May issue, Don Logan, president-CEO of Time Inc. announced March 17. It will, however, continue to publish commemorative newsstand editions of significant events, as well as books under the Life banner. The title, which ceased publication as a weekly in 1972, had struggled ever since it was revived as a monthly in 1978. The approximately 80 Life staffers will be offered positions on other Time Inc. titles. Time magazine executives will assume responsibility for stewardship of the Life legacy, Mr. Logan said.
