Time Warner goes online via cable

Time Warner Cable and Time Inc. have started to test a high-speed online service delivered via cable wires. The service, running in 400 homes in Elmira, N.Y., and several libraries, schools and government offices, offers access to Time Inc.'s Pathfinder World Wide Web service; local, national and international news; shopping; sports; weather; and e-mail. The basic monthly charge is $14.95 per month; for an extra $9.95 per month subscribers can get high-speed access to the Internet.
