Times Mirror Co., Tribune Co. and Washington Post Co. have formed a partnership to expand their Internet classified advertising. Contributions from each were undisclosed, although a spokesman said Tribune will invest at least $20 million. The first product will be cars.com
, to be launched in January in eight cities with listings from the 10 total affiliate newspapers as well as automotive news and information. Cars.com has already signed a two-year distribution deal with America Online, and is also seeking affiliate partners such as publishers with access to large databases of auto inventories.
